About Us
Foreword
I am pleased to present the 2010 edition of the Ministry of Manpower (MOM)’s Career Compass, a career guide for students.
The pilot edition of the Career Compass was first launched in 2008 in the form of CDs. It reached out to over 40,000 readers, many of whom found it useful in helping them gain a better understanding of the opportunities in the job market, and make more informed choices on the courses of study and careers. For the second edition in 2009, we constructed a dedicated Internet portal for the Career Compass which greatly enhanced its outreach to students, registering an average of 5,000 hits per day.
We have taken into account valuable feedback received from users in designing the 2010 edition. Career Compass 2010 aims to be a one-stop solution for students. Apart from offering information on industry outlook, career pathways and job opportunities, it will also provide links to job preparation and career planning tools, as well as relevant government assistance programmes to help students prepare for their chosen careers.
Singapore’s labour market has shown encouraging signs of a turnaround since the second half of 2009. Hiring sentiment has picked up in various industries, including aerospace, biomedical sciences, tourism, healthcare, social services and childcare. I encourage graduates to make use of Career Compass to gather more information about pathways, prospects and progression in these and other fast growing industries before making important career choices.
I hope you will find the Career Compass useful in helping you navigate the opportunities available in the job market and fulfill your career aspirations. We look forward to your feedback, to help us refine future versions of this guide.
